A report appears in Wall Street Journal (WSJ). It names Ankhi Das, the policy head of Facebook in India as sympathetic to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She is accused of allowing “hate speech” from the party’s leaders or supporters on the Social Media platform. Unnamed Facebook employees have spilled these beans. The Indian parliamentary IT panel, headed by Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, which also has Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Mohua Moitra, are straining at the leash. The great idealists that they are–never mind they work for parties which are dictatorial—are sleepless at this assault on their professed principles.
Here, certain things don’t add up. The provocation of this report is recent Bengaluru riots. The implication is that the ugly violence was sparked off because Facebook let go a “hate-speech” against Muslims. The WSJ doesn’t name its sources which it claims are from the Facebook India fold itself. However, it has no qualms in naming and shaming the policy head of the Social Media giant.
It’s now known, through a piece by BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya, that if anything, Facebook is teeming with anti-BJP voices. It’s managing director is Ajit Mohan, who was a Planning Commission guy during the UPA days. Sidharth Mazumdar of Facebook’s public policy team, was once Sonia Gandhi’s strategist. Manish Khanduri, who headed news alliances for Facebook, had contested the 2019 general elections on a Congress ticket. But Ankhi Das, the policy head, is a BJP sympathizer, never mind her family is “aligned to the Trinamool Congress.” And if these names don’t ring a bell, this one would do: Manish Tewari, Union I&B minister under UPA, is on the board of Atlantic Council, which handles the job of eliminating political propaganda on Facebook.
It might bore you but a couple of sentences must not miss your attention. In the run-up to 2019 General Elections, Congress had engaged Cambridge Analytica. This company was in the business of weaponizing Facebook data and algorithms to influence elections around the world. Documents were submitted in UK parliament by a whistleblower in 2018 that Cambridge Analytica had worked for Congress party in India. Congress had been caught red-handed.
Doesn’t it beg a question if Facebook is pro-BJP or in fact pro-Congress? Just look at the names who are deleting their Facebook accounts in the last few hours: Nidhi Razdan, Swati Chaturvedi, KC Singh etc. They all are part of Left-Liberals. To me it looks a concerted attack.
Readers, now, let me pose a simple question: If Ankhi Das alone pulls all the strings and is aligned to BJP, how did the Sonia Gandhi go Live on Facebook, where she was on her “aar-ya-paar-ki-ladai” exhortation mode to Muslims, which was followed by Delhi riots killing 59 this February? If Facebook is biased in favour of BJP, how has Asaduddin Owaisi, “the champion of hate-speech” and Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani could whip up thousands of followers on Facebook?
Who do you think is now the policy manager of Facebook? One who has perhaps used the vilest of language against the BJP and the prime minister Narendra Modi. This man is also abusive to Indian army. Does it look to you that Facebook leans towards BJP or Congress? Now we learn that Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is summoning Facebook officials to probe their role in the Delhi riots. Doesn’t it make you appear that a lion (BJP) is being hunted down by wolves?
And please don’t be fooled that Facebook once deleted accounts of Congress sympathizers. Or that Ankhi Das was a proof Facebook was supporting BJP. This is a common mode how you cover your tracks. Arguments which you could always throw at your investigators. You throw a few useless, like Ankhi Das, under the bus to appear pious. Meanwhile, parley with big matrons in the background.
Readers you would now say how does it concern you? It of course concerns you a hell of a lot. You are using Social Media platforms which has banned a strong anti-Left-Liberal voice like Dr Anand Ranganathan on twitter. All for quoting a verse from Quran. Do we need to remind how many times True Indology has been banned on twitter? Do we need to recount the hate posts which were made against Kamlesh Tewari for mentioning the Prophet Muhammad and nothing happened to them?
All this is to let you know that your Social Media platforms are rigged. Nobody knows how their algorithms work. First came the Indian newspapers with monopoly on news and ideas. Then it was democratized with the onset of internet. Now we have same monopolistic roaches, teeming on the floor, which decide who comes in into the kitchen and who stay out. The powers of this world have always wanted to rule the humanity. Whenever masses are empowered, these monsters strike back.
You and I thus stand no chance. The only hope are those who want truth at all costs. It could be you, me or a few of our brave websites. The ones who also hope that one day Indian state and its brightest would work out new Social Media platforms which we could call our own.
Till then, suffer. But fight.
Betfair, the biggest online betting network in the world with over 50 million pounds sterling of turnover per week, assists illegal betting operations in India and the authorities are either helpless or not interested in taking up the matter. Even Betfair’s past history of data theft doesn’t seem to wake up the regulatory bodies from another Cambridge Analytica kind of situation emerging.
Betfair lends its technology and system to www.lcexch.com which is run by a Pakistani from Dubai but primarily targets the illegal massive Indian betting markets, reportedly siphoning off Rs 5000 crores of cash per month. It even gives rise to suspicion that www.lcexch.com could even be a front for Betfair.
The website www.lxcexch.com shares profits and loss with Indian bettors in cash through the help of its agents spread in every nook and corner of India. The “collection” of black money then goes through “havala” via Dubai to Pakistan from where it ostensibly is used to fund drugs and terrorism in India.
That the operations of www.lcexch.com is done physically is apparent by the fact that you can’t sign up for this website, implying its’ a closely operated network of punters and bookies.
Despite extensive coverage in India, the crime and regulatory authorities in India are yet to crack down on the nefarious operations even as a more damaging picture is only now beginning to emerge.
Betfair has admitted in the past that it stole the payment data of 3.15 million of its clients; a further personal details of 3 million other users—in all over 6 million data of its clients.
The fact evokes the dreaded image of Cambridge Analytica, recently in news for data breach of Facebook that ostensibly is used to affect and shape elections, including ones in India.
Betfair technically is safe on legal grounds since it only supports the operations of a Dubai and not India-run website but it’s impossible it doesn’t know that this website’s betting is done in cash and that online betting is prohibited in India—hence it clearly seems in league with an illegal betting website.
Besides helping generate black money and siphoning off India’s money abroad, Betfair also is not accountable that the data it collects of Indians is safe and secure and that it’s not guilty of creating a Cambridge Analytica kind of dangerous situation.
There is a saying that colonial powers ruled the word on one axiom: Take control of any one of the three—Land, Labour or Resources—and you would control that country.
That Betfair doesn’t become another East India Company is a responsibility squarely on the shoulders of Indian authorities which hasn’t so far shut down www.lxexch.comdespite extensive coverage. It’s time it actively and swiftly brings the website down to a close.
There is a good reason to believe that mainstream English newspapers in India keep masses uneducated. Most of it stems from bias. A lot has also to do because journos themselves are uneducated. They can’t speak or write on any subject coherently. At best they are quote-renters. At worse, remotely controlled by compromised bosses, politically aligned. The whiff of money and power also keeps them drugged.
Look at the data issue currently clouding our mornings. Aadhaar of course is unpalatable to these journos. In the name of data breach, for months at end, the mainstream media is trying to discredit it. So when Union Minister of State, KJ Alphons made a spirited defence of it, Hindustan Times on its front page accused him for kicking up a “fresh row.” The stable of Times of India called it “bizarre.” Indian Express buried it on Page 10.
What Mr Minister has done is to ask a few simple questions:
- Aadhaar only asks for your name and address to go with identification. When a telephone directory can have your name and address, why not Aadhaar?
- When you apply for US Visa, everything of yours, including your body, is laid bare, so why object Aadhaar?
- Not a single breach of Aadhaar data has occurred in the past three-and-a-half years.
A sensible and responsible media ought to have reflected and posed these questions to its readers in response:
- When you give your personal details to earn loyalty points and discounts in a shopping mall, why not Aadhaar?
- When you give your personal details for mobile numbers, Facebook, banks and passports, why not Aadhaar?
- When in order to get a blue tick on twitter, you give all your personal information, why not Aadhaar?
Yet, all we get is the minister being accused of being “bizarre” and “kicking up a row.” Row? Who’s in opposition? Obviously the mainstream media itself is offended and nobody else.
Never would you see an English mainstream media applauding Aadhaar for ostensibly eliminating fake subsidies, throwing out middlemen out and; securing direct subsidies to poor and needy. Damn it, I would let government put every bit of me under a scanner if the rampant corruption could be rooted out.
Those in support of corrupt practices are obviously corrupt. The implication is clear for mainstream media. Yet in the name of privacy, they are using hammers and axes of lies everyday to dismantle Aadhaar. And to keep us “uneducated” on Aadhaar’s overwhelming benefits.
Since “data breach” is the current flavour, in the wake of Facebook outrage, the English mainstream media has gone berserk on the NaMo App. Indian Express has spilled over columns and pages in ugly multi-layered headlines on NaMo App to convey private information of its users are being passed on to US companies. This has followed on Rahul Gandhi claiming that the Prime Minister is “spying” on “personal data” of users.
Now all these dim-wit English mainstream media would never care to inform its readers that one could use NaMo App without giving any information. Yes, without giving any information!
The attempt clearly is to hijack the current outrage over Cambridge Analytica’s alleged data theft of Facebook users. Yet English mainstream media would hide the most logical fact from its readers and indulge in hysteria.
Readers ought to be aware of a very common tactics used by these presstitutes while running down BJP and Prime Minister Modi. Whenever a valid accusation is made by BJP against its opponents—like the engaging of Cambridge Analtyica by Congress—a counter allegation is hurled at BJP and the headlines in newspapers next day read: “BJP and Congress trade charges over Analytica.” This is the same tactics presstitutes use when BJP workers get killed in Bengal or Kerala. Opposition are nudged to similar allegations in return and newspapers next day report: “BJP and Left trade charges on political murders.”
The only option left with the neutral citizens of this country is to call out this “fraud” of the presstitutes. Keep hammering away at their moral credibility till they are left without even a fig leaf to cover their shame.
And keep informing their mistruths to unsuspecting readers who pay for being told lies.
